Our Charities
The 22nd anniversary event was again a tremendous success. We were able to raise an impressive $23,054 for the Winter Sports Programs of Special Olympics. This puts our fundraising efforts over $708,000.
We also raised another $3,163 for the Twin Towers Initiative bringing our total raised to over $50,000. This is especially important during 2011 since this is the 10th anniversary of the attacks on the United States. This effort was aided by our own Shea Dowling raising dollars for TTI through her National Lemonade Day effort. Shea will be setting up on May 1, 2011 for National Lemonade Day and then again at the beginning of Police Week on May 12, 2011 at the conclusion of the 9-11 Blue Valor Ride.
Our replica of the Twin Towers is presently being readied for the trip to New York where the towers will be driven from Ground Zero to Washington, DC. during the 9-11 Blue Valor Ride. They will then be presented to the new law enforcement museum personnel to be placed in the Hall of Remembrance at the conclusion of the ride.
NEWS: The Township of Galloway, NJ chose to raise dollars for the Twin Towers Initiative. This community does not and will not forget! Because of their efforts, they raised $3,889.22 for TTI. We have now raised over $45,859.22 for TTI. We thank the community for their joining us in NOT FORGETTING ALL THOSE LOST ON 9-11-01.
In addition, our Chair, Ben Caperton was asked to plan and help organize the 9-11 BLUE VALOR RIDE taking place May 12, 2011 during Police Week. The ride will begin at New York's Ground Zero and will end at the site of the Police Memorial and museum in Washington, DC. Ben is also riding as an Honor Guard for Jimmy Lynch, a Port Authority Officer lost on 9-11-01 and who was the former partner of our own Ken Cordo of the race. There will be 72 Honor Guards riding for each of the 72 Officers of 9-11. Remember that 2011 is the 10th anniversary of the attacks on the United States.
The ride is looking for riders. You do have to raise a certain dollar level to participate. The ride is limited to the first 250 riders. For more information if you want to RIDE, contact Ben Caperton at chmn@napsc.org. The ride benefits the Ken Tietjen Foundation (Ken was a Port Authority Officer lost on 9-11) and the new LE museum being built in DC.
